Interview Copilot guides
How do I get real-time answer help in a Zoom interview?
If the interview rules allow AI help, run an interview copilot that listens to Zoom and transcribes the questions. SpeechShield doesn't add a bot to the meeting: it listens to Zoom's audio on your Mac, and when the interviewer finishes, it shows talking points from your resume and the job posting in a small window over Zoom or on your phone.
Before the interview
- Check the AI policy in the interview invitation. If nothing is written, ask the recruiter.
- Add the target role, company, resume and job posting to an interview context. Add the company overview or interview reviews as reference material.
- In Settings → Audio, set the input to Both (microphone and system audio) and choose zoom.us as the capture source. Picking a single app keeps out other sounds like notification alerts.
- Run the input test to check that both channels come through.
- Do one mock interview over Zoom with a friend to check how fast answers appear and adjust the text size.
During the interview
- When the interviewer finishes and pauses, auto-suggest shows talking points. Press ⌘↩︎ to get one right away.
- Follow-up questions are answered with the conversation so far, so they connect to what you said.
- If the interviewer puts a problem on screen, press ⌘K to attach your screen to the next answer. The first time, macOS asks for screen recording permission.
- Put suggestions in your own words. With the Key Points style, only a few keywords appear.
Common problems
- Wearing earphones: Zoom's audio is taken straight from your Mac, so it's still transcribed.
- Zoom in a browser: choose your browser instead of the Zoom app as the capture source.
- The interviewer isn't transcribed: click the listening pill in the session window and check that the system audio level moves. If it doesn't, check system audio recording permission in Settings → Permissions.
Related questions
Does it work with Google Meet or Teams?
Yes. Any call that plays audio on your Mac works the same way. Just change the capture source to Microsoft Teams or your browser.
Won't a window over Zoom get in the way?
The overlay doesn't take focus away from Zoom. Drag its edges to resize it, and turn on click-through with ⌘⇧M so clicks go to Zoom behind it. You can also show answers on your phone and keep only Zoom on your Mac's screen.
