Interview Copilot guides
Is an interview copilot free to use?
Many interview copilots let you start for free, but most cap the trial in minutes or answers. SpeechShield gives a one-time trial of 60 minutes and 50 answers with no card, and it's free without a time limit when you connect your own API key or the Claude Code or Codex CLI on your Mac.
What to check in a free plan
- Whether the trial is one-time or refills every month
- Whether the trial needs a card, and whether it bills you when it ends
- What the free plan leaves out: resume-based answers, a phone view, how long history is kept
- Who pays for the AI: only the vendor's hosted AI, or can you connect your own account
Using SpeechShield for free
- Sign-up trial: the first time you sign in on a Mac, you get 60 minutes and 50 answers of SpeechShield-hosted AI. No card.
- Your own AI: connect Claude Code with a Claude subscription or Codex with a ChatGPT account to get answers. An OpenAI key or a local model like Ollama works too. You pay SpeechShield nothing for this.
- On this Mac: speech recognition and translation run free with what's built into macOS. Your voice never leaves the Mac.
- What Free includes: one interview profile and the last 7 days of history, plus the phone viewer, recording and screenshot answers.
Is it worth paying for?
If your interviews are bunched together, skipping setup saves time. Pro is $19 a month for 1,200 minutes and 1,000 answers every month, with a separate profile for every company you apply to. If you already pay for an AI, Free is enough.
Ask within 7 days of paying and you get a full refund, whether or not you used it.
Related questions
Will I be charged when the trial ends?
No. You never enter a card, so nothing is charged. When the trial runs out, keep going with your own API key or a local CLI, or upgrade to Pro.
What does the free plan leave out?
Live answers, the phone viewer, recording and screenshot answers all work on Free. You get one profile and the last 7 days of history; answer translation and hiding from Activity Monitor come with paid plans.
