Interview Copilot guides
What is an interview copilot?
An interview copilot is an AI tool that transcribes the interviewer's questions during a video interview and suggests what to say, based on your resume and the job posting. It doesn't answer for you. It puts your own experience and numbers in front of you when nerves make them hard to recall. Use it in mock interviews and in interviews that allow AI help.
How it works
Most interview copilots work in three steps.
- Listen: it hears the call and transcribes what the interviewer says. Some tools add a bot to the meeting; others listen to the audio your computer plays.
- Wait: it decides when the interviewer has finished and it's your turn to answer.
- Suggest: it writes talking points from your resume, the job posting and the conversation so far, and shows them in a small window over your screen (an overlay) or on your phone.
How is it different from pasting questions into ChatGPT?
With ChatGPT you type every question, and unless you paste your resume each time the answers turn generic. An interview copilot transcribes the question on its own and answers from the resume you saved for that company and role, so your hands stay free during the interview.
It also answers follow-up questions in line with what you said before.
Where to use one
- Mock interviews: practice over video with a friend, or play an interview practice video or a voice chat with an AI and answer it.
- Interviews in another language: transcribe questions in English and read talking points in your own language.
- Review: after the interview, go back over the questions and suggestions in your history to prepare better answers.
SpeechShield Interview Copilot
SpeechShield is an interview copilot for Mac. It listens to the audio your Mac plays instead of adding a bot, so it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and browser calls without setup. Your resume and job posting are encrypted on your Mac, and talking points appear in an overlay on your Mac and on your phone.
Related questions
Is an interview copilot the same as an AI mock interview?
No. In an AI mock interview, the AI plays the interviewer, asks questions and grades you. An interview copilot sits on your side in an interview with a person. You can combine them: play an AI mock interview and practice answering with the copilot.
Should I read the suggestions out loud?
Suggestions are talking points, not a script. They come short, as conclusion, reasons and an example, so glance at them and answer in your own words. In SpeechShield you choose the length: Full, Concise or Key Points.
