Interview Copilot guides
Which AI is best for live interviews?
In a live interview, an AI that starts answering fast beats the smartest model. Whether it transcribes the question accurately, streams the answer as it writes, and draws on your resume and the conversation so far matters more than the model's name.
What matters live
- Speech recognition: the answer is only as good as the transcribed question. If you mix in technical terms, pick a service that recognizes them well.
- Time to first line: the first line should appear soon after the interviewer stops. Larger models can start later.
- Grounding: your resume, the job posting and the conversation so far keep follow-up answers consistent.
- Images: if the interview shows coding problems or slides, you need a model that reads images.
AI you can use in SpeechShield
- SpeechShield-hosted AI: speech recognition and answers with no setup.
- Claude Code and Codex: answers on the Claude subscription or ChatGPT account you already have.
- API keys: connect OpenAI or Soniox keys, or an OpenAI-compatible API like OpenRouter or Ollama, and pick the model yourself.
- On this Mac: speech recognition built into macOS. Your voice stays on the Mac, but you set one language, and words from another language may be spelled out phonetically.
How to choose
Start with SpeechShield-hosted AI in a mock interview, with nothing to set up. If answers feel slow or you want a specific model, switch to a direct connection and compare with the same questions. During a session, the connection and model in use are shown on screen.
Related questions
GPT or Claude for interview answers?
Both write good interview answers. Live, speed and the account you already have matter more than the model. Connect Claude Code if you have a Claude subscription or Codex if you have a ChatGPT account, and compare them on the same questions.
Can I use a local AI?
Yes. Connect a local server like Ollama and answers are written without leaving your Mac. Depending on your Mac, answers may start later, so check in a mock interview first.
