Interview Copilot guides
Can AI help in an English interview if English isn't my first language?
Yes, where the interview rules allow it. An interview copilot can transcribe the interviewer's English with a translation in your language underneath, and show answers in English, based on your resume, with a translation too. Use it in mock interviews and in interviews that allow AI.
Where English interviews get hard
- Listening: you catch half the question and answer something else.
- Speaking: you know what to say but the English sentence doesn't come.
- Numbers and terms: you stall on results and technical terms.
Setting it up in SpeechShield
- Set the interview language in your interview context to English. Set the answer language to English for answers to say as they are, or to your own language for answers in it.
- Turn on conversation translation to add a translation under what the interviewer says. It works when speech recognition runs on SpeechShield or Soniox.
- Turn on answer translation to add a translation in your language under each English answer, with the key point in your language too. Answer translation comes with Pro and Max.
- If you mix English with your own language, choose SpeechShield or Soniox for speech recognition. Recognition on this Mac needs a single language.
Using it naturally
- Don't read the English answer word for word. Glance at the key point and say it your way. The Key Points style shows only a few keywords.
- If you didn't catch the question, ask again rather than waiting for the translation.
- A few English mock interviews leave you with more stories you can tell without looking.

Does it work for interviews in other languages?
Yes. The interview and answer languages are set separately, so an interview in Japanese with answers in English works too. Translations come in 13 languages.
Won't the interviewer notice me reading a translation?
Eyes drifting to one spot on the screen is a common sign interviewers notice. Use it only where it's allowed, and glance at the key point instead of reading the answer.
